What is the topic of the webinar?
Over the last decades, zirconia has become one of the most interesting materials in restorative dentistry. In implant dentistry, all-ceramic materials have been used for more than 50 years. First alumina was the material of choice which showed acceptable osseointegration but inferior mechanical properties. Today modern zirconia materials exhibit enough stability for long-term clinical success. However, the market share of dental implants fabricated from zirconia is still below 2 % in Europe. An important point might be the question of one-piece or two-piece concepts. Two-piece titanium implants as the golden standard offer prosthetic advantages compared to one-piece zirconia implants. Two-piece zirconia implants are associated with a certain minimum diameter and difficulty to mount the abutment to the implant without applying tension to the zirconia implant.
The lecture will give an overview of zirconia implants available on the market and their scientific background. Furthermore, a clinical concept for zirconia implants and zirconia restorations on titanium implants will be given.
Objectives of this webinar:
- Share current knowledge about zirconia implants
- Compare one-piece vs. two-piece zirconia implants
- Highlight all-ceramics on dental implants
