In mid-November, three organizations from Spain, Germany and Switzerland joined forces with their experts from science, practice and laboratory to develop recommendations for minimally invasive restorations at the world’s first prosthetic consensus conference. The Spanish Society of Prosthodontics and Esthetics (SEPES) hosted the expert network Progress in Science and Education with Ceramics (PROSEC) and the Swiss Society of Reconstructive Dentistry (SSRD) at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Complutense University in Madrid. The shared goal of the consensus conference was to develop concrete recommendations for action for laboratories and practices and thus for patient care on the basis of six reviews prepared in advance in three groups.
Guiding principle: Together for better dentistry!
The topics covered included minimally invasive and non-invasive restorations in the anterior and posterior region, the appropriate approach for bite elevations, preparation forms and the precision of intraoral scanners. The recommendations for action are currently being finalized by the group leaders, Prof. Dr Florian Beuer (PROSEC), PD Dr Alexis Ioannidis (SSRD) and Prof. Dr Guillermo Pradíes (SEPES) to be published along with the reviews and clinical case studies. The conference represented a milestone for minimally invasive dentistry and dental technology that will make patient care even gentler in the future, and provide the right catalysts for further research.
